Electrical Handyman in London
Half the "electrical" jobs on a normal to-do list are things a handyman can legally and safely do: replacing a socket, swapping a light fitting, adding a dimmer. I do these daily.
What's included
- ✓Socket changes, USB sockets, face-plate upgrades
- ✓Light fittings, ceiling roses, pendant lights, chandeliers
- ✓Switch replacement — dimmers, smart switches, two-way
- ✓Extractor fans (bathroom/kitchen), wired smoke alarms
- ✓Consumer-unit basics — RCD trips, broken breakers (notifiable work referred to Part P electrician)
How I work
I work to current IET wiring regulations and isolate at the consumer unit before starting. For notifiable work (new circuits, bathroom zones, consumer-unit changes, full rewires) I bring in a Part P registered electrician — safer, legal, and you get a certificate. Ask me for a straight answer about what falls into which category.
Frequently asked
Can you replace a light fitting?
Yes — replacement like-for-like is a common handyman job. New pendants, chandeliers, LED panels, smart fittings. I'll check the ceiling rose and wiring colours first.
Can you add new sockets?
Adding extra sockets is usually notifiable electrical work. I'll either do it in partnership with a Part P electrician or refer you. Simple face-plate replacements I handle directly.
What about smart switches and dimmers?
Yes — Hive, Lutron, Philips Hue wall switches, standard dimmers, smart relay modules. All fine as direct replacements.
