Why neighbour recommendations matter more than paid ads
If you search "handyman near me" in London, the top of the page is almost always paid adverts — tradespeople who have bid the most to be there. That tells you nothing about the quality of their work. It tells you who had the biggest marketing budget that morning.
A recommendation from a neighbour on the East Dulwich Forum, or a verified review on MyBuilder, tells you something completely different. It tells you a real person — in a real house near yours — paid real money for real work, and came back afterwards to say it was worth it. They had nothing to gain by posting. That's a signal that can't be faked and can't be bought.
